Shopped for a replacement for my ancient Hoover Self-propelled vacuum
This one has a number of great features I was looking for:

Easy to carry; It has handholds at the top and the bottom of the handle that make it easy to carry from room to room, as well as helping to vacuum stairs

Easy to use tools:The tools are stored at the top, and the access door flips down and away from you, allowing easy access. The hose is short, but allows me to easily snap on an attachment for cleaning off the furniture, and carpet edges.A longer hose is available as an option.I have not tried it.

Good suction thru the hose and at the powerhead.

Effective cleaning; the dirt finder light does seem to work.It stays red until is senses no particles are being pulled up.

Light weight; at least 5 lbs lighter than the self propelled version.Much easier to carry up and down the steps.
Simpler construction should last much longer than the self-propelled mechanism, too.

Easy assembly; took a whole 5 minutes.

Noise; not the quietest, but not as loud as my old Hoover

Bagged;I tried a bagless unit once... what a mess every time you have to dump the dust can. This one comes with a hepa material replaceable bag.Fill it up, dump the whole thing. No muss, no fuss...

All said, a great unit for a great price.

Product Description:
Equipped with a 12 amp motor and patented WindTunnel technology, this bagged upright vacuum delivers powerful, deep-down cleaning performance. It uses three distinct air channels to lift and trap dirt, keeping it from scattering back into the carpet, so dirt ends up in the cleaner not on the floor. With red and green lights, its embedded DirtFinder system indicates areas that may need more cleaning attention. The green "clean" light remains on while vacuuming except when the detector senses a larger amount of dirt; then the red "dirty" light will illuminate to suggest additional vacuuming in the area until the light changes back to green. The unit also traps 99.97-percent of dust and pollens down to 0.3 microns in size thanks to its HEPA media bag. Other thoughtful details include non-marring wheels with bearings for lower push effort on carpet and safe use on bare floors, an ergonomic D-grip handle for added comfort and control, and a bag-check indicator so there's no need to guess when the bag needs changing. The cleaner also comes with fingertip on/off power control, five-position height adjustment, edge-cleaning bristles, and a headlight, as well as a deluxe stretch hose, a complete on-board tool set for above-floor cleaning, and a 31-foot power cord. The vacuum cleaner measures 13 by 15 by 43 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Eureka 71B Hand-Held Vacuum Review

Eureka 71B Hand-Held Vacuum
Average Reviews:

Two cats and two fabric-covered couches, can you feel my pain? After a while, I was going nuts. I'd go broke buying the adhesive type lint rollers, the rubber ones (search for "sweepa") and the reusable brush type didn't do the job.All I'd heard about was dysons, dysons, dysons, so I started saving. But then I thought, hey, what I want is the little motorized roller brush attachment -- so I got online, started searching, and found this.I figured $40 as opposed to $500 was worth a try, especially with the good reviews.

and it *was*.It gets all the cat hair off my couch, and the nice thing is that the hose just tugs right out and you can also get the little cracks and crevices without missing a beat. The "riser visor" thing, I thought was kinda silly til I started using it -- and it's great. You can vacuum horizontally and vertically, and for furniture, stairs, etc--a great feature.

My only complaint is that it's just a *bit* heavy, especially for longer use.Wears that arm out, but that can be a good thing, too.

I'm still hoping to get a dyson eventually, but for the job I wanted to do, getting pet hair off my furniture -- this is *perfect*.

Dirt Devil M085590 Featherlite Bagged Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review

Dirt Devil M085590 Featherlite Bagged Upright Vacuum Cleaner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Approximately three years ago, my $200 Eureka vac finally stopped working and I purchased the featherlite to replace it.At that time I lived in a 1,400 sf apartment. Now I live in a 2,500 sft home.

For the past three years, this vacuum has served our family well.Pros:

1.Inexpensive.$40 or less in most places.
2.It picks up dirt, fuzz (and legos) as well or better than any other vacuum I've ever used.Really.Just change the bag when it gets full.
3.Light weight. It's very easy to manuver and my younger kids can use it.
4.Simplicity.This is a basic vac. It's easy to change the bag, wind the cord, and pull hair/crud out of the roller if necessary.
5.It's got a bag. This is a personal preference, but every bagless upright I've ever used creates a small dust storm when you empty it.The bag system on this one works well.

Cons:
1.I don't expect it to go past 5 years. It's clearly designed for low cost and light weight. However, so far so good.
2.It's pretty loud. Not the loudest I've used but it's not quiet.
3.The hose for attachments is cumbersome to use.My recommendation?Use a small canister vac and/or shop vac instead. Most uprights have on-board tools that don't work well.
4.I have several children, and one in particular that sheds a lot of long hair. All vac will get hair caught in the beater-bar underneath, but this one also seems to get hair caught in the bushings that support the bar. When this happens, the hair builds up in that area creating friction and eventually smelly hair smell. Not a huge problem but slightly annoying.

I intend to buy another one of these when mine gives out.If I have to spend $40 every 4-6 years to own a lightweight, easy to use, vacuum that cleans extremely well then I'm quite ok with that!I see no reason to blow $200-$400 on a large heavy vacuum that MIGHT last a little longer.

Bissell Healthy Home Upright Vacuum Cleaner, Bagless, 12 Amp, 16N5 Review

Bissell Healthy Home Upright Vacuum Cleaner, Bagless, 12 Amp, 16N5
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been using the original Bissell Healthy Home vac for nearly two years and have been extremely pleased with it. This updated version builds upon the strengths of the original and adds a few new features.

My biggest complaint with the original Healthy Home was the weight. Bissell has addressed this common complaint by making the new model lighter by a few pounds. But, the lighter weight appears to come at the expense of solid construction - parts like the handle and collection bin feel less substantial. I know you can't equate durability with weight, but my initial impression of the new model was that it's less resistant to the knocks and bruises that vacs tend to take. Too early to tell, however. It has a five year warranty like the old model.

Assembly is a snap - two screws for the handle (which are no longer recessed, so they are easy to get in) and two screws for the cord wrap.

Operationally, the new vac preforms just as well as the old model. I have seven cats. Yes, seven. This is the house where vacuums get put to the test. The Bissell takes all that is thrown at it with nary a problem. The carpet suction is excellent; the tool suction is good. Easy to maneuver with large, non-marring wheels.

As in the old model, the carpet beater can be turned off for hard floor or very delicate/thin carpet use. The switches have been repositioned so they are less prone to being hit accidentally. The beater has a clutch, so if it gets bound up in something it stops turning rather than burn out the belt. The belt is (according to Bissell) a "life time" belt.

The carpet height is adjustable with a knob. I prefer that type of manual adjustment since the auto adjust models from other brands never seem to get it right on some carpets. Doing it manually lets you set a higher height for more delicate rugs, and a lower, more aggressive height for rugs that need to be churned up more to get the pet hair/dirt out.

The HEPA filter has been moved from the side of the vac to under the collection bin. According to Bissell this allows for better functionality/cleaner exhaust. Seems to work fine, but the old method also worked well. Having the filter in-line does make the vac narrower - that's probably the main benefit.

It still has the foam (washable) pre-filter. Great feature to have since it extends the life of the non-washable HEPA. I've been getting about 18 months life out of the HEPA filters in the old model.

The hose routing has been changed. It's a bit harder to dislodge than the old model for tool use, but still fairly easy compared with other vacs I've used.

The collection bin is also easy to take off and empty. I prefer bagless since I can't stand paying for bags. The new bin has straight sides to help get all the crud out. Still, dumping out the bin of any bagless vac can be messy, and you sometimes have to reach in to get out the big clumps of light-weight material (such as cat hair). If you have major allergies or just don't like to deal with this, you may want to consider a bagged model.

Tips:

1) Every so often take the collection bin apart and wash it out. Very fine dust can collect in the upper cyclonic chamber, and can affect performance. Make sure all parts are bone dry before putting them back on the vac.

2) I recommend you replace the plastic wand with an aluminum wand. You can get it at the Bissell site online (register online and you'll get free shipping). The metal wand is more robust than the plastic and also has positive click stops to ensure it does not fold up when you push hard.

3) The contour head is also a nice add-on if you have pets. It is a non-powered head (unlike the included turbo head) which is good for more delicate fabrics or furniture throws with loose threads that can snag. You can get it from Bissell or Amazon.

4) If you want a full-size floor brush, the models from Sears fit the Bissell.

In summary, this is an excellent vac. The new model takes a couple of steps forward and perhaps only a half-step back (construction quality). If you can get the old model at a discount, it's well worth it if you can deal with the weight. If not, this model is also highly recommended.

Product Description:
Equipped with a 12 amp motor, the Bissell 16N5 Healthy Home bagless upright vacuum cleaner features an AireTight HEPA filtration system that traps and seals in 100 percent of dust mites, pollen, ragweed, mold spores and 99.9 percent of pet dander. It also offers Bissell's Microban antimicrobial protection, which works to continuously fight the growth of odor causing bacteria, mold and mildew. The multi-cyclonic system uses centrifugal force instead of filters to separate the dirt and particles, helping it stay clean longer and resulting in non-stop suction. And the permanent filter also eliminates the need to buy and replace filters, saving you time and money.
It's a great choice for both carpeted and bare floors as well as upholstery and stairs. Use the TurboBrush for upholstery and stairs, the crevice tool to access narrow spaces, the extension wand for extended reach, and the combination upholstery/dusting brush to clean tabletops, bookshelves, furniture, and more. Other features include a wide 15-inch cleaning path, 7 surface height adjustments, a 15-ounce dirt cup capacity, 30-inch cord length, fingertip controls on the handle, soft bumper to protect walls and furniture, and a headlight. The unit weighs 30 pounds and it's backed by a 5-year limited warranty.

This is a fantastic little vac.It isn't as loud as my last stick vac and it doesn't scratch my wood floors. The first day I bought it I really put it through the paces.I was impressed with how well it cleans floors, carpets and rugs with fringe.I love the fact that you can turn off the roller to do the fringed rugs and floors. It picked up popcorn and screws easily.Sand and gravel from the kids shoes, no problem. After a rain, the floor got a little muddy from all the kids going in and out so I just turned on the brush and VOILA, the dried mud went right up.
It really does stand on it's own, even on a soft cushy carpet.
The only changes left to make is to lengthen the cord a bit and put a small pull-out nozzle high up on the side so I can use it for practically everything, such as dusting windowsills.I won't let my wish list ruin the review though.5 stars for the best little vac I've had yet.

Dyson DC25 Ball All-Floors Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review

Dyson DC25 Ball All-Floors Upright Vacuum Cleaner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We were going to buy the DC07, but decided the DC25 was worth the upgrade....boy, were we right!!!
The main clencher is the ease of using the attachment tools, with the DC25, you just extend the telescoping pole, and, voila! you're ready to go!{the DC07 requires plugging/unplugging to use the attachment tools} I found myself attacking every corner and groove with specks of dirt/cobwebs in it (LOVE this thing for cleaning the ac intake grates and the fins of our air filters!)...most of them without ever having to bend over.
Of course there is the fantastic suction, but then, you expect that from Dyson's reputation...it was disgusting what it got out of our carpet (we have no pets, no kids, and don't wear shoes in the house; I vacuum very regularly, anyways) the first time.
If you don't think you'll use the attachment/tools much, the cheaper models might work for you, but if you appreciate being able to easily attack the tiny corners and grooves no upright can fit into, you're probably dreaming of this model.
The "Ball" feature makes turning and getting into weird corners a breeze, although it may take some people a while to get used to; I've been using a swivel-head mop for years, so I'm used to the motion.
FYI, if you get those 20% off coupons from a certain store that sells stuff for Beds, Baths and, well, you know, that last "B"..you can try all the Dyson vacuums in the store, purchase your Dyson from them with a coupon (saving you $100 on this model!), not pay for shipping, and have the ease of returning/exchanging at a local store if you should have a problem.

Product Description:
Equipped with Dyson Ball technology, this upright vacuum cleaner sits on a ball for easy twisting and turning around furniture and obstacles--no more missed angles or tiresome back-and-forth vacuuming. The ball also encapsulates the machine's 11 amp motor, creating a low center of gravity for even easier maneuverability. The vacuum cleaner uses Root Cyclone technology to separate dirt from the air by centrifugal force, which ensures efficient cleaning with no clogging or loss of suction. Dyson proves no loss of suction using the IEC 60312 Cl 2.9 test standard. Effective for use on all floor types, the unit's motorized brushbar can be turned on to remove dirt and pet hair from carpets, or turned off to protect delicate rugs and floors. It also supplies a quick-draw Telescope Reach wand, which expands to offers 16 feet of reach for stairs, drapes, upholstery, and more.
For cleaner expelled air, the unit comes with a washable lifetime HEPA filter that traps microscopic allergens such as pollen and bacteria. In fact, the air expelled from a Dyson has up to 150 times less bacteria and mold than the air you breathe, and all Dyson uprights are certified asthma friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. The unit's hygienic 1/3-gallon bin quickly empties without ever having to touch the dust--just press the button and dust empties from the bottom; the clear polycarbonate bin also allows for easily viewing the cleaning progress and gauging when it needs to be emptied. Other highlights include fingertip controls, a constant suction power of 220 air watts, a 24-3/5-foot cord, a maximum reach of 40-2/7 feet, and a lightweight design at only 16-1/8 pounds. On-board accessory tools include a combination tool and a stair tool. The vacuum cleaner measures 12-1/5 by 15-2/5 by 42-2/5 inches and carries a five-year parts-and-labor warranty.

I bought this vacuum strictly for the basement(where our Home Theatre is set up).It was a pain in the *ss carrying our canister up and down all the time, so I happened upon this cleaner on sale at Home Depot for a mere $70.00...I was initially skeptical at first, I mean a $70 vacuum? However, I purchased it anyway, knowing that I would be able to return it if I wasn't happy. The setup and assembly was fairly quick. The instructions were easy to follow and featured step-by-step illustrations. When I had everything ready to go, I decided to give it a "test run", and I was impressed.I was amazed at the junk our Sears Canister was leaving behind, as I watched the cat hair and dust swirling around in the collection bin.My only complaint-and this is common with bagless vacs in general-is that you MUST clean the filter off after every use, otherwise they tend to plug up and overheat the motor. This is especially true if you have multiple pets, or longhaired cats.In conclusion, this is a good machine.Strong suction too.The attachments include an extension wand for above floor cleaning, crevice tool, and dusting brush. The dustbin simply snaps off in a jiffy, and the filter is washable/replaceable.This is what I like to refer to as a "second vac", when you simply want a machine on another level in your home, without having to lug your main vacuum all over the place.I've owned it for about 5 months now, and so far, no complaints.Just keep it clean and you'll be set. Also, pay no attention to that one review below. This is obviously referring to a totally separate model.I'm happy.

Hoover Tempo Widepath Upright Vacuum, Bagged, U5140-900
Average Reviews:

Despite the rave reviews here on amazon and on other sites, I was not expecting much with such a low price. My expectations were certainly rewarded with an amazing value, a great vacuum, and the usual Amazon speedy delivery. It is really hard to believe that such a good product could be so inexpensive, even if it is made in Mexico. The build quality is excellent. However, for someone tall, like me, (6'4") the handle is not long enough, the bag is on the small side, and the unit is noisy (but not any more so than other vacuums I have had that were 3x the price), but those are the only negatives after a week of use. Instead of smelling dust while vacuuming, the air coming out of the vacuum is actually fresher and cleaner smelling than the air in the room. Searching amazon, one can find belts for $3 or less and bags less than $1 in quantity, so the unit should be inexpensive to operate. If I get five years out of the unit, I will be more than satisfied.

Hoover Platinum Lightweight Upright Vacuum with Canister, Bagged, UH30010COM Review

Hoover Platinum Lightweight Upright Vacuum with Canister, Bagged, UH30010COM
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Hoover Platinum Lightweight Bagged Upright with Canister (UH30010COM) (3/14/09)

Overall, this is a terrific vacuum. The person who will be happiest with this combination is the person who: (1) wants a lightweight vacuum, (2) has mostly carpet in their home, (3) has carpeted stairs, and (4) uses attachments.

I liked my old vacuum, so using the LBU has been an eye-opening experience for me: I didn't realize how much effort I was exerting with my old upright with attachments - not only heavier, but so much bending and stooping to change settings or get tools.

At 11 pounds, the LBU is 2 to 3 pounds heavier- but less expensive - than competing models. Bonuses: it has a longer cord and a stair cleaning handle.

Competing models -
Hoover LBU, 11 lbs list $300/retail $300 (includes canister), 6 yr warranty
Riccar RSL5; 8 lbs list $710/ retail $500 (without canister), 3 yr warranty
Oreck XL Gold: 9 lbs list $600/ retail $500 (includes canister), 5/10 warranty
Oreck XL Platinum: 9 lbs list $800/ retail $600 (includes canister), 10 yr warranty

All of these uprights (including the LBU) are similar to commercial models, but you don't get the same auto carpet height adjustment, lifetime belt, HEPA filtration, and warranty on commercial models.

The supplementary canister has a strap and a 25 food cord.I didn't like it the first time I tried it, but the second time I adjusted the strap to fit me (DUH!), and then I LOVED it! The canister carries the crevice and brush attachments on board, so switching is easy, and the wand is extendable. (I don't use the floor tool, because I use a stick vac on my hardwoods.)

ADDED ADVICE (9/9/09): I have been using my machine about 6 months. About a month ago, I noticed that my machine was no longer expelling fresh smelling air.I assumed that although the bag was not completely full (after 5 months, in a 2800 sq ft mostly carpeted house), the dust from my 15/16yo carpets had clogged it up and so I replaced it (not bad...5 months for one bag). After replacing the bag, it still didn't smell as good as at first. Not nasty, just dusty. Hmmm. So I took out the new bag, vacuumed out the interior of the bag area (carefully, so I wouldn't damage anything), removed the base of the machine and cleaned and vacuumed that out as well (an advantage to a separate canister).

(Edit 11/13/09) That seemed to pretty much solve it for me, but I asked about it when I called about the battery for my Hoover Platinum Collection Linx Cordless Stick Vacuum) (see review), and was told that if you live in a very humid climate (like the Gulf Coast), then a cloth bag machine can develop a funky smell - especially if stored in an unventilated area - which can be treated by putting the vaccuum out in the sunshine on a hot, dry day.I was told NOT to use carpet fresh or other powders or spray fresheners (like Febreeze) because the product might build up over time and clog up the outer cloth bag.(END OF ADDED ADVICE)

If you want details about specific features, read on:

PROS

FINGERTIP CONTROLS - Wonderful. Many models have this type of control now, and now that I have used it I wouldn't buy one that didn't have it.

HEPA SYSTEM - Remarkable. My old vacuum was a HEPA model with HEPA bags, but there is no comparison to this model. The air on this vacuum comes out smelling fabulous.I bought and returned a top rated Kenmore canister that had the exact same amazingly clean exhaust (turns out I don't like using a canister), so I think this is the new hallmark of quality vacuums.

AUTO CARPET HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT - Works beautifully.I used to have to stoop down to change the carpet height adjustment on different rugs, but the LBU self-adjustment really works - no problem pushing vacuum over even the thickest pile.

CORD PLACEMENT - Smart! It comes out the behind the top of the bag rather than the bottom. This means I have even more useable cord, because I don't have to hold part of the cord up to avoid running over it.

CLEANING ABILITY - VERY effective carpet cleaner, my 15 year-old carpets look & feel (to bare feet) remarkably cleaner, and even look & feel newer. Excellent at removing pet hair from carpet. The upright is 5.5 amps with direct air flow, like the Riccar & Oreck models listed. The canister is 7 amps.(The combined total is listed in the product description - very confusing. I suppose that Hoover thought consumers want a 12 amp machine, but amps are like gas mileage; if you get more suction for less amperage it's like getting better mileage. That's good, not bad.Plus you won't blow your fuses!)

EASILY MANEUVERABLE - One expects this of a lightweight model, and all the models I tried turned easily and so forth, but the Riccar & Orecks I tried had to be kicked or tipped up over the edge of an area rug placed onto another carpet. In my home I have area rugs in several rooms on top of the wall-to-wall carpeting, and the LBU moves seamlessly over the edges (even on my thickest area rug) without needing a kick or an extra hard push.

LIFETIME LED HEADLIGHT - Brilliant! (Literally!)It is brighter than any other light I have ever had on a vacuum, and is it actually aimed at the carpet! I think having the LEDs has allowed them to aim the light better than with a standard bulb. I am sure other LED equipped models are comparable, so look for this feature,

LIFETIME BELT - YES!I've replaced SO many belts over the years and I won't have to do THAT anymore, thank goodness.

STAIR-CLEANING HANDLE - Finally. It is comfortably shaped & works well. To use competitors' models on stairs, you have to hold them by the back tube, which I've tried, and it isn't nearly as easy as using the handle. However, see cons below.

CORD RELEASE - (6/9/09 edit) I thought it didn't have one until another Amazon customer posted a commment to me (see comments) that it most certainly does; then I tried it again and VOILA! it does.Because I couldn't figure it out before, I got into the habit of just winding up the 35' cord on my arm and plopping it into the top cord holder. The LBU doesn't threaten to tip over at all when I do this, so it works just great and saves me yet another bend and stoop - but it's a good feature to have, so I'm glad the engineers didn't leave it out.

CONS

STAIR-CLEANING HANDLE - Good grief!I assume it really WAS necessary to vent the motor exhaust toward the stair-cleaning handle (!), so rather than curse the engineers, hold the handle on the right-hand side. It's big enough to do that, thank goodness.Or vacuum the stairs first, before the motor gets warm.

NO BRUSH ROLL ON/OFF - Hmmm. This is in the description (and competitors' models are the same), so it means that the vacuum is intended ONLY for people with mostly carpet.I have about 80/20 carpet/bare floor, so it works for me.I use a stick vac on my hardwood, and the other person I talked to that has hardwood floors and this vacuum says she doesn't care because her hardwood floors aren't new anyway. But if you have brand-spankin'-new hardwood floors, will you really want to use a brush-roll on them?

EXPENSIVE BAGS - Really, $5 each? But they are huge, and they are the very high quality type with fabric-like paper, so we'll see.I used to have to change my old ones ($3) fairly often, so maybe this will work out the same or even cheaper.

CARRY-STRAP FOR CANISTER - Not padded.Anyone know where I can buy a pad for a 1 ½ inch strap?

This review is longer than I would like, but since there are so few reviews out there as yet, I wanted to be thorough.Sorry for the length but hope this helps!

(7/19/2009 edit) By the way, the original price on this was $400 and now it has dropped to under $300!This is a terrific value at this price! I would be furious if I hadn't gotten a 20% discount in the first place!

Other highlights include a 12 amp motor, a 14-inch-wide nozzle, automatic height adjustment, and edge-cleaning brushes, as well as a lifetime LED headlight, a comfortable D-shaped handle, and a 35-foot power cord. Even more, the unit comes with a canister vacuum for above-the-floor cleaning and for bare-floor surfaces. Simply attach the included bare-floor brush, dusting/furniture brush, or crevice tool to the end of the telescoping extension wand for thorough, detailed cleaning throughout the house. A detachable shoulder strap for conveniently transporting the canister vacuum comes included, along with a Type Q upright HEPA bag, a Type I portable canister HEPA bag, and a user manual for both the upright and the canister. The upright vacuum cleaner measures approximately 15-1/2 by 13 by 45 inches and carries a six-year limited warranty.

Eureka 4870MZ Boss Smart-Vac Upright HEPA Vacuum Cleaner Review

Eureka 4870MZ Boss Smart-Vac Upright HEPA Vacuum Cleaner

Although most the reviews are for the 4870GZ and I bought the 4870MZ, I suspect the machines are basically the same so I won't repeat what others have already said about it except to say this is a solid machine with excellent suction and it did a great job on my carpets, both deep cleaning and returning the nap to a plush feel.

I'm writing to say that, contrary to many reviews, the Power Paw does in fact attach to the vacuum. At least mine does. It comes with a clear plastic cover that attaches to the vacuum just below the top D-handle. If you look closely you'll find the mating point. You then simply clip the paw into the cover and it stores on the handle.

Also, contrary to some reviews, the bare floor setting works fine. You just need to press the tab hard until you hear a click and it engages. The brush is then disabled for bare floor vacuuming.

I really wanted to justify a Dyson but at 1/3 the price, this machine is all that I need. I'm extremely satisfied with the purchase.

Bissell #32074 2 PackClean View Replacement Belt Review

After much research (6 months) for what to look for in a vacuum, bag vs. bagless, quiet, hepa filter, strong suction, I decided on this Bissell. This machine is easy to propel across carpet and picks up things even in the very corner of its path, which my Hoover never did. I needed a machine that would vacuum both carpet and tile and pick up cat hair. This Bissell Powerglide has power, excellent suction, even for cat hair and is a breeze to operate. The added option of the hepa filter is great the Bissell quieter than the Hoover.I could suggest this vacuum to anyone without any reserve.I actually look forward to vacuuming now which I used to dread when I had the Hoover.
