I rely heavily on Consumer Reports testing and they say to avoid Hoover vacuums because of the need for repairs. We bought one of their value recommends last time and hauled around a monster that dropped parts of itself and never did need to have the HEPA filter replaced, which left us suspicious about how much good it was really doing. This time we went with their recommend for this brand but couldn't find it locally, so off to Amazon we came.

Our house is mostly wood floors with a few large rugs scattered about so dogs can snore. I vacuum in the morning and again in the evening so we can perch on the furniture where they've rested all day. We sacrifice heftiness for a light vacuum and want a quiet one so we don't deafen ourselves or the animals. We were concerned because there is no sound rating on the website but the 21 pounds was great.

It took 2 minutes to assemble the thing and 1 minute of that time was finding the screwdriver. It comes in two pieces. It took me another one minute to figure out how to work the thing; it's totally intuitive. What you can't see is a back view. You don't need to bend to store the cord. It winds in a triangle of 12 inches. You can vacuum in your bare feet, unlike my last vacuum that required wooden clogs to move the lever to angle the top of the machine down and go forward. If you have weak hands or arthritis, it's easy to move the brush lever up and down.

I'm deleting half a star because it's hard to get the wheels up over the cord and the sides of some of our heavier sisal rugs, which seems strange. I actually have to put the machine straight up to do so, or lift it up and over the cord or side of the rug. The other half a star is lost because the hose that attaches to the tools is so inflexible and the machine is so light that you have to block the machine with your body and hold the hose with one hand while you stretch it with the other to use the tool. This may loosen as I use it. If it does I'll come back and alter this review.

I see Amazon is offering a package of U3 bags to send with this. The bag that was in the unit was U12. That's what I'll be buying.

Oh, there is the really cool "Air Turbine" attachment that is motorized that is worth its weight in gold. It picks pet hair off furniture efficiently and does carpeted stairs better then anything I've ever had before. If you're on the cusp and you have pets, buy the vacuum for it.

One last thing: When we bought this through Amazon, it was through another seller at a much lower price and were thrilled with their service and what they charged for delivery. Immediately after, they bowed out and this seller took over at near retail so I can't vouch for their service.
